MGS3100 Spring 2012: Syllabus, Important Links, Contact Info

Welcome to my MGS3100 Business Analysis course.  I look forward to working with each of you during the semester.

Here's a copy of the course Syllabus and schedule.  I'm teaching two sections of the class, so check the heading at the top of the schedule pages to make sure you are reviewing the schedule that applies to your class.

I communicate to students through a variety of internet based services and electronic media.  Here are important links that you should consult regularly for course materials, important announcements and other useful information about the class:

  • Course Website: Here's a relatively static place where you can learn about the class, homework assignments, and projects. I'm still updating and refreshing the website, but within a few weeks my work on the website will be finished for the semester and there won't be many updates to it during the remainder of the semester.
  • Business Analysis ClassNotes & Blog:  Here's where I post dynamic infomration such as presentations, lecture notes, sample exams, homework solutions, project information.  I post information to the blog regularly throughout the semester.  Presentations are posted after I've concluded a lecture series.  You should probably check the blog at least once a week to make sure you stay current on course materials and activities.
  • Twitter Bulletin Board: I will post important announcements to twitter.  This is a one-way dialogue (if you already use twitter, you can "friend" this twitter account, but I won't friend you back).  I post twitter announcements regularly, so you should check the twitter bulleting board a couple times a week to make sure you don't miss important announcements.

You can communication with me a variety of ways and I've posted my personal contact information in the syllabus:

  • Call or text message me
  • Email me
  • Windows Live Messenger: sometimes during the semester I'll hold "virtual office hours,"  where I'll log into Windows Live Messenger to field student questions.  I'll announce in class and post an announcement to twitter whenever I plan to hold virtual office hours.  My Windows Live Messenger ID is my course email address.
  • Arranged Meetings: I am only on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays and can schedule student meetings during those days.  If you'd like to meet with me, send me an email to get on my schedule.  Be sure to tell me what day and time you'd like to meet with me.

We're using a new textbook this semester and I've revamped the course a bit (which is the reason why I'm still working on the website).  The new textbook is a collection of chapters from two published textbooks.  You don't need to purchase the textbooks; instead you can purchase electronic versions of just the chapters that support the material we'll be discussing in class:

I'm looking foward to seeing your smiling face in class
